Snapshot! Profiles of the Commonwealth Part 8

Description

In this episode of “Snapshot!” we will be looking at the Adirondack sector. Adirondack was settled at the same time as the Alexandria sector as a part of the ACS’s operations. The additional resources and revenue allotted to the agency allowed for the adaptation of the Zeugma class vessel for use by the ACS tripling their operations range and making the ACS a critical reconnaissance element against pirate activity.  Despite being one of the most recently colonized sectors Andirondack is home to two separate ‘metropolis’ settlements, making it the cultural center of the Commonwealth. Most of the entertainment industry is centered here and thus the sector’s value to commerce concerns is unrivaled. In fact this very show is shot on the planet Nisir which is located guess where?

The sector capitol is Hirotritus, which is detailed above in our included solar system graphic. As you can see the I-339-H and I-400-J stars make the beaches, resorts and tourist hot spots hard to peat as the planet itself is not lacking in things to do or see. Scenic landscapes and exotic wild life complete the package. It’s no surprise that the area is a prime vacation destination. Due to all this, the Navy maintains a strong presence in the area as does the Colonial Militia. The military presence is perfectly welcome given that the sector is still considered ‘frontier’ due to its location and age since colonization.

I-431-I is known as the Nisir system. This sector possesses a fair portion of the sector’s commercial concerns and most of its entertainment industry. The solar system has a binary star arrangement featuring an odd combination of a dying blue star and a red giant which jointly produce enough light to sustain life on the system’s four inhabited planets. The planets of the solar system consist of C, K, L, M, P, Q and S class planets. The population center is the class M while smaller populations are present on the K, L and Q class planets in the system.

I-489-J is commonly called the Etana solar system. Etana is unique because of its binary star arrangement consisting of a blue star that is paired with a seemingly inert Neutron star. The neutron star is well within range to tear apart the blue star but has not for reasons currently under study. Additionally the Neutrons tar seems to be producing no emissions and has taken on an oblate spheroid shape with an oddly slow spinning habit. Around the odd star arrangement rotating at a fair distance are the systems three planets, of I, S, and L classes respectively. The L class is barely populated by at best a few hundred to a thousand individuals all tasked with military or scientific operations.

I-522-K is the Anshan solar system. Anshan is one of the few solar systems to feature a triple star arrangement and the only one known to include a pulsar. The other two stars in Anshan are a yellow star and a red dwarf. Effectively the one planet that is in habited does receive a lot of light and heat as a result of the star’s arrangement but is also bathed in what amounts to radio waves making it hard to spot at distance as even photon-based sensors seem to suffer difficulty in  seeing at long ranges. Around the three stars there are six planets of A, B, C, H, O and T classes. The H class is the site of major mining operations.

I-587-L is known under the name Eana. The solar system is largely stable though its single blue-white star is known for its exceptionally violent solar storms and powerful coronal discharges. To scientists the star is fascinating, and to some tourists it is mesmerizing. To commercial vessels it’s a frustrating hazard that no one can do anything about as the storms can often make travel to most of the in habited planets very dangerous. Likewise the solar storms stir up ion storms on most of the planets that can pose some threats to the colonists. Threats aside Eana bears a large number of colonized worlds as five of its six planets have colonies. The planets are of I, L, H, M, R, and R classes. The two R classes are rouge planets, with K-type classifications that are fairly stabilized.

[ OOC note, the solar system art above was made using the Donjon Solar System creator. The images othe right arenot my photographs. The first is a fire department in Australia (I think), the second is a google maps image, and the third is from a national park site in the USA.]
