Description

Overview
The inception of project Titan was the end all too military-industrial concepts, what worked for battleships just had to work for ground combat units. All or Nothing was Hildebrand’s overlying concept in designing the land-mech that would eventually be called Typhon. Hildebrand directly drew on the natures of existing mechs at the Unions disposal, but what really brought the project Typhon its best basis was the Helios. The idea was that if the Helios which was tough as nails for it's intended mission and yet flexible could do so much for the medium weight class then perhaps a larger mech could have the same far reaching effects for all classes. This mech due to the resources required would have to also be the last word for any class and bring about the end of enemy resistance in the ground war in a more publicly palpable way then merely shooting its opponents into piles of scrap. It would not be until 3007 that the first 'Titan' chassis underwent its first trials and exploded under its own bulk. When news leaked of the failure the media would spin it as 'Hildebrand's folly' and this was an insult the skilled scientist did not take well. It would not be discovered until mid-October of 3007 that a batch of faulty main actuators caused the wreck but despite this the damage to the project was done and funding cut. Hildebrand not unlike a parent protecting a child on life support continued his work in secret even finding a Lieutenant willing to be the test pilot for the revised 'titan' land-mech which was renamed 'Typhon' after the most monstrous titan to oppose the likes of Zeus and the pantheon.

Capabilities
The Typhon is constructed on the largest chassis possible for the times maximizing every aspect of what it means to be a land-mech. At 100 tons there are no mechs larger and very few so well engineered. In truth the Typhon may just be the most intimidating Land-mech ever, not only is it as fast as a mech of its size is absolutely capable of new engine and armor technologies make it harder to hurt and passive modular technologies make repairs faster. The primary ranged weapons are a pair of LRM-5 launchers mounted in externalized racks over the shoulders of the Typhon, each mounts it's own target acquisition system and thus can fire separately and independently even having the ability to fire over obstacles. Backing this up is a pair of Magnapulse Lasers who's high rage of fire can put a seriously withering hail of high energy bolts on a target with respectable accuracy and a high range of fire as one is mounted in each arm. For all lesser ranges the Typhon like the titan it is named after gets really ugly. Four medium diameter magnapulse lasers, two in each side-torso give heavy rates of fire for close encounters, but the real threat is the massive Sanders 140mm case less-compression auto cannon mounted in the right arm. The gun itself is the crowning achievement of the design, while being arm mounted fives the expected problems of moving ammo tot he gun and the relative vulnerabilities of limb-mounted weapons the range of fire and difficulty to hit as it's not center-mass help offset such. The Auto cannon however is of a higher velocity type, using older technology to put more force behind the rounds fired the damage factors of the gun are worry some for anyone having to face it. Medium and light armored foes rarely survive a direct hit while heavy and assault units may need a second hit. Additionally like all case less guns the 140mm gun ejects its spent rounds whether the propellant block ignites and fires a shell or not which effectively makes jamming rare.

Field Trials
In early combat trials against armored resistance on Kerrville in particular many CORE forces simply fled at scouting reports of approaching Typhon. In one particular incident a group of General Broadwell's troops chose to fight A mech group that included a Typhon in it's numbers, while details of the battle vary based on who is asked it is confirmed a Typhon engaged a Wolfhound class assault tank for approximately two hours before the Typhon finally got the upper hand as the assault tank attempted to cross a Heavy bridge over the Fereistal River. Lieu tenant Cioffari ended the game by kicking the tank over into the river the crew presumably having drowned in the flood waters below ending the duel and most of the residual resistance in the area.
